Editor’s Note

“Everything is designed. Few things are designed well,” said popular American host and broadcaster, Brian Reed.

At ParkCity Group, however, we conscientiously curate lifetime communities within built environments that exceed expectations through our brand pillars of diverse communities, seamless connectivity and thoughtful conveniences.

In this issue of Parklife, we highlight how thoughtful design trends elevate consumer experience and how good design spaces can and should infuse quality to our daily living.

Indeed, good design defines the beautifully appointed and recently completed residence, Park Regent.

The latest addition to our multiple award-winning, master-planned Desa ParkCity township in Kuala Lumpur saw its delighted residents being presented with keys to their homes in December 2023. Boasting a majestic architectural disposition with stunning views and exhibiting tasteful finishes, elegant touches as well as comprehensive and thoughtful amenities, Park Regent epitomises luxe living in lush surroundings.

The Group is also excited to unveil a new master-planned township soon. Dubbed ParkCity Botanika, this township will inject a fresh essence into the landscape of Cyberjaya. Building upon the city’s smart infrastructure and embodying the Group’s brand pillars — well-honed over 20 years — the community-driven and sustainable township of ParkCity Botanika will illustrate all the hallmark characteristics of ParkCity Group’s reputed brand of liveable townships. Furthermore, the upcoming township will be conceptualised on the tenets of “complete neighbourhood” and “people-centric mobility”.

Meanwhile, it’s no revelation that the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted our lives profoundly, pushing slow-moving trends to the fast track and prompting new ones across many industries including that of design, technology, e-commerce, remote work and others.

Undoubtedly, the traditional boundaries between our professional and personal worlds have become blurred, for better or for worse, reshaping the world that we live in.

This brings us to our feature story — “Enhancing workplace design to meet new-era needs” — in which we discover how the causal effects of the pandemic, technological advances and other factors, such as louder calls for sustainability, are impacting workplace design trends.

Counselled by Bryant Lu, vice-chairman of Hong Kong-based architectural firm Ronald Lu & Partners and founder of BEHAVE, the firm’s research lab, we learn how the concepts of work and recreation within office spaces are no longer mutually exclusive influences on design.

Instead, in the current world, more emphasis is placed on developing employee-centric environments which promote work-life balance, and ultimately, productivity through the alignment of mental, physical and emotional health.

Still looking through the lens of design, we call attention to the ancient art of “shakkei”. Known as “borrowed scenery”, this East-Asian gardening concept incorporates “borrowed” elements from a background landscape or backdrop to extend the visual composition of a garden or balcony, thus enhancing its aesthetics.

On another note, if you’re in search of a good cuppa and speciality coffee, why not drop by 103 Coffee at The Waterfront in Desa ParkCity to indulge in delicious coffee flavours brewed by champion barista, Nicky Voon. Inspired by a character from a Taiwanese movie titled Café. Waiting. Love., Voon’s story is a testament to how hard work and perseverance trumps all challenges.

And as always, our townships will be brimming with revelry during annual celebrations such as the Mid-autumn festival, Christmas and of course, our enthralling and very popular year-end Light Festival. Do be sure to drop by and join in the fun!
